Board-Certified Opticians

An Optician is a technical practitioner who designs, fits and dispenses corrective lenses for the correction of a person’s vision from prescriptions issued by optometrists and ophthalmologists. Opticians analyze and interpret prescriptions, determining the best lens options for patients based on their lifestyle, occupation and hobbies. Opticians are trained to adjust, repair and replace previously prepared ophthalmic lenses and frames.

Duvall Advanced Family Eyecare has over 1,000 frames to choose from, about twice the inventory of a typical optical store and with literally hundreds of lens choices, carefully considered recommendations are more important than ever. We are an independently owned and operated business with a reputation for quality products and service.

ABOC

The American Board of Opticianry and National Contact Lens Examiners (ABO-NCLE) is an organization that stands for quality eye care. This non-profit certification board develops, administers and monitors the national certification programs for opticians. The organization certifies those individuals who have attained an established level of knowledge and skill necessary to safely dispense eye wear.

The ABO is raising consumer awareness about the importance of using an ABO certified optician. In asking for certified dispensers, consumers are assured that they are receiving the highest quality eye care by professionals nationally recognized for their standards of excellence. Certification is achieved by examination and maintained through continuing education approved by the ABO and available to opticians across the country.

As a consumer, you have the right to ask if your eyewear dispenser is nationally certified by the American Board of Opticianry. The Federal Trade Commission has a regulation which requires eye doctors to give consumers a copy of their prescription. Consumers have the right to have their prescription filled at the optical dispensary of their choice. Look for the American Board of Opticianry seal of certification on the doors of your chosen optical shop. The certified dispensers will have their certificates on display with a current date of renewal seal attached.
