School screenings are good for detecting nearsightedness (difficulty seeing at distance), but do not address eye health problems, farsightedness (difficulty seeing at near), eye coordination, or focusing problems.  Children should have their first eye exam at age 6 to 12 months, then again at age 3 and before starting kindergarten, then yearly as their visual system develops.

Schedule an eye exam at any age if you or your child’s teacher notice vision problems.  Here’s what to watch for…difficulty learning to read or poor reading scores, squinting, holding a book close, a short attention span, a drop in school or athletic performance, frequent eye rubbing or blinking, poor eye/hand coordination, avoiding close work, complaints of headaches, double vision or blurring, closing one eye, eyes crossing or one eye turning in or out.

Drs. Brad and Suzan Grimm, experienced optometric physicians of Duvall Advanced Family EyeCare at Copper Hill Square on Main Street in Duvall have a very family friendly eye clinic and optical dispensary with a full range of prescription eyewear and sunglasses for the whole family.  Give them a call this summer to schedule exams for your whole family at 425-788-2990.
